Domain Transfer FAQ
How long does a domain transfer take?
Most domain transfers complete in 5-7 days. Some registrars process transfers faster, while others use the full ICANN-mandated window. You will receive email confirmations at each stage.
Will my website go down during the transfer?
No. Domain transfers only change who manages the domain registration, not where it points. Your DNS records stay intact, so your website and email continue working without interruption.
How much does a domain transfer cost?
Domain transfers are priced at the standard annual renewal rate for each TLD. You get a free 1-year extension added to your current expiration date, so the transfer effectively pays for itself.
What is an EPP or authorization code?
An EPP code (also called an auth code or transfer key) is a unique password assigned to your domain by your current registrar. It proves you own the domain and authorize the transfer. You can usually find it in your registrar's domain management panel.
Can I transfer a domain I just registered?
ICANN requires a 60-day waiting period after registration or a previous transfer before a domain can be transferred again. If your domain was registered or transferred less than 60 days ago, you will need to wait.
What happens to my remaining registration time?
You keep all your remaining registration time. The transfer adds one full year on top of whatever time you have left — so you never lose time you have already paid for.
